Elements of Travel.

These paintings are ridiculously massive and I’m STILL working on them. I will try to keep this section updated. Hopefully they will be finished within the nest two months.
Idea behind it…. Chaos and information overload I collected from travel, represented through the emotions of an optimistic youth travelling for the first time. Each painting is a representation of either Romance, Adventure, Wonder or Excess. Intertwined into the figures are appropriation images from various destinations, copied from photos and reproduced with paint to define the figure. *example the twist in Annabel’s neck * (Annabel is Adventure)
Based on a cocktail of different artists, I am considering changing the background.. But again have reached a slightly cautious stage (like I did with I begin life on my own and I don’t like it.) since these paintings are not for a specific deadline, they may possibly be sitting in this state for a while…unless I choose to put them in an exhibition…..

My work-the idea (Playing) Tools of Reproduction.

I want to use this relationship between the everyday and the romantic representation to make a cast metal sculpture. Sketch from photoshoot. Figures refelceted. (outline for 150x200cm oil painting)

OIL painting (250cm in height, 200cm width.)

The style of this painting is unlike any i have attempted before. The scale of this paintings, nature of the reference picture and the fact that photo realist paintings now bore me, meant that this work has tackled the imagery in a personally unique way: A fluid and abstract use of paint. Devolving form my last project, a focus on on the nature of oil paint. The photo i took of these three figures came out a quite blurred, so abandoning any attempt at realism i changed my style, adapting it organically throughout the course of this painting.

While working
I just stumbled the artist Cecilly Brown; Paintings created by this artist will continue to influence my work in the future. Brown started as a realist painter and developed her style by painting pornographic images which appeared blurred, until some of her paintings developed to simply abstract.

This style is one i want to develop within my own practice, and research further what i can do with the blurred image. Here is a sample of some of her work-

Sing ardour to the technique of photorealism/ to slander its ineffectiveness

The problem with photo realism- it is purely about technique, but holds little else of value.

How can a painting be emotive if it reminds you of "paint by numbers" Or simply just "wow i thought that was a photograph!" no its not a very meticulously painted painting. Impressive...

In Franz Gertsch case incredibly impressive.

But...i want to show something more through the use of paint. However I also want to develop my realist tecnique (skin, colour, anatomy ect.)

On a whim, i found this artist's work on Saatchi online.
http://www.saatchionline.com/profiles/index/id/94416

I admire the way the artists has used paint and colour, blurring the features of a face as if it were being viewed through rippling water.
With these ideas in mind i want to create a realist image of a figure, that appears to be fading or blurred or warped in places, using painting to create a fluid appearance on canvas.

Scan from sketch book- Initial idea's.
